Slant of Light tells the story of love, loss, betrayal, and struggle among a group of idealists who form a utopian community in the Missouri Ozarks before the Civil War.  Their dreams of creating a perfect society quickly run up against the harsh realities of rural life, personal discord, and the ever growing tension between slave states and free states.
